GOOD INDIAN BUFFET AND AWESOME BOLLYWOOD MUSIC VIDEOS! usual wide variety buffet with the tikka, aloo, tandoori's and such. all the curries were good, mostly greasy, and salty. the best being tandoori fish and chicken tikka masala. the bbq meats are a no go though - just too dry. garlic naan (vs regular naan at other places) is a plus! service was awesome, water and chai tea refills galore! and if your mouth is too hot then you have mangolassi to cool it down. overall, good food, drinks, and really funny music videos.

Shut down by Health Department. Sign posted on locked door says it all. Again and again and again. Five times or more within the last two years. Not good.

Came here on a Wednesday night with my boyfriend. There was no one... which always makes me a little skeptical but we decided to give it a shot 1) because of its high reviews and 2) well, I was really craving some garlic naan. So you're given two options, either the dinner buffet or ordering a la carte. We opted for the latter but ended up still ordering way too much: 2 sides of rice 2 sides of garlic naan 2 entrees: 1 chicken tikka masala, 1 mattar paneer HUGE portions. Halving that order and adding another appetizer probably would have been sufficient. The entrees weren't the best, and were way creamier than usual. 4 stars though. For the portions and for the friendly service.

The Place The restaurant has opened again. We were the only ones on Sunday afternoon as most people don't know that they have opened again. The investors of the place are running it now. The current owner told me they had to shutdown because of a change in ownership and the health department wanted them to fix some amenities in the building. The Food It was my first time at the place. The buffet was pretty good. The bread could have been better. Overall worth it. Regarding the after effects of eating there due to health score concerns I will post another review if anything drastic happens to my general health :p

Came here with a group of friends a while back for lunch for the AYCE lunch. Now, I love my share of AYCE... but this place fell short. You would think with Indian food... you can make anything work with the wonderful spices and curries available! Sadly, I was disappointed by this place. The chicken tikka masala is my all time favorite at all Indian places... somehow this place butchered it. Sauce was bland and it was SWEET. I've never had masala that was sweet!!! The other items which wasn't that memorable were pretty bland. If the curry wasn't bland, it was covered up with spices which made the dish too spicy. They had this pumpkin tea that was pretty good. I was pretty excited about the mango lassi... but after I tried it... it was watered down. It was missing some kind of cream. Service was pretty fast.. but there wasn't much people during the lunch hour, which may have been why they cleaned our plates fast. The best thing that stood out to me during the meal was the naan. I usually love dipping my naan with the curry... but again... the curry wasn't special enough for me to dip. The naan was probably better off without the curry! Overall, the meal was okay, nothing memorable and nothing worth telling my friends about.

This is more of an informative review, just didn't want to affect their star rating. The options here for vegans/vegetarians are extremely limited. They also may not have the buffet available during stated business hours (open at 11:30am and items for the buffet only started to trickle out at 12:30pm). Very nice staff, not a bad experience, but not a good fit for a hungry, veggie eater.

Garlic naan was excellent and unlimited, buffet options were plentiful, but the samosas were lukewarm. Good pricing for an all-you-can-eat buffet

Well, they're closed. "Repeated and Serious violations" of the health code. I know I should be grossed out, but I'll miss their tandoori fish. I kind of hope they get it figured out.

Read the whole review The food was good. I had the Buffett good price for the amount. My ONLY issue was when I asked how much the Buffett was for the kids and he said they were free but at the end he charged us $15.99 for my 5 year old ????? Which if your a parent is a lot for a kid who doesn't eat the same amount as an adult. I otherwise thought that the staff was very friendly and It's a big space good for large groups.

My friend Brian and I have a bit of a tradition where we meet to come to Curry Village for their delicious curry buffet, and today did not disappoint. The Tikka Masala was amazing as usual - great hot temperature with mild spice, almost sweet, and the chicken pieces were fairly large - no skimping here. I could honestly eat this for DAYS. This is my answer to the tropical island question, If you were stuck on a tropical island and could only have one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Chicken Tikka Masala, hands down. We also tried the Lamb Vindaloo, Fried Potatoes, Aloo Gobi, Fish Tandoori, and the Tofu Veggie Curry. All delicious. The naan at Curry Village might just be perfect. And not just because it's free (most Indian restaurants will charge $1 per naan). Even if you don't order the buffet it's free here. They are generally good at keeping the naan coming without you having to ask for it. Once it arrives, it has been seasoned with garlic butter and each piece is always as fluffy as a cloud. The ambiance in Curry Village is really great - everything always seems spotless when I'm there, and this time they even had carnations at every table! Little touches like that can really make a difference in your dining experience. They have a few HD tv's on the walls that are always playing fun Bollywood music videos, so you get that fun experience as well. They turn the music way down or even on mute, though, so it doesn't interrupt your conversation. And the service is great - the lady who is almost always there (I'm assuming is the owner), is so friendly and makes sure every customer is happy. Love it!

I like Curry Village. I like their lunch buffet. One thing that always impress me about this place is their service. They do clean up plates relatively fast and replenish your naan, serve you your water + tea. Some people love their tea (I don't drink tea), but I like their mango lassi. It is slightly more watered down than before but I like it that way. I don't like it too thick or else it's hard to drink. I love how drinks are free (free soda)! So time to talk about the food... I like the vindaloo and masalas. Overall, all the dishes are delicious! I think my favorite part is the naan. Great price for decent food. Come hungry during lunch time!

Curry Village is quite delicious, and their lunch buffet is definitely worth trying. If you order off the menu, consider opting for a mild level of spiciness. What they consider mild is on the spicier side to typical American palates. I'm dismayed to see two health department scores in the 50s here on Yelp. You'd hope that a restaurant would only score that low once before literally cleaning up their act. The chef is passionate, and quite good, so I hope he and the rest of the staff take this seriously and immediately adopt proper sanitation practices. The place definitely doesn't feel dirty, and there certainly are far scummier restaurants around. Those health scores are unacceptable though. If they had higher scores, I'd give them five stars.

Favorite Indian buffet in the city. You can also order off a menu too but this is one of the few places that has a buffet all day. Naan is made to order and the lady would order for us when we were low. We were full but a fresh one was still coming, she let me take what I had left (it was a lot) home and she wrapped the fresh naan for me! Never does a place let you take anything to go! Drinks were all included, there was soda, they brought chai tea to us and they were on top of their water game. I really appreciate this place and want to give 5 stars. The only thing holding them back is their health scores.. The place does not seem dirty, everything seems pretty clean... Its just a little surprising and unsettling. My bf had the worst stomach experience after eating here (I did not and ate more then him) but I think its because he can't take spice like I can? He blames their health score, whatever. Oh, and maybe some vegetarian options too? I am not a vegi but I like my indian lentils and such with the naan. Nice environment too, love the big screens playing Indian pop videos! Staff was pretty amazing there every time I go by the way, will come again!!

To get the best bang for your buck. Go for the lunch buffet. I can't justify the dinner price. You will receive a generous amount of naan. You will drink sweet chai. You will eat as much as you want. The tandoori chicken is pretty good. The saag is okay. The tikka masala is is different compared to the usual. But I enjoy it.

Came here for Saturday lunch buffet on account of the great reviews. I've lived in nob hill and hayes valley, and have tried most Indian buffets in that area of sf, so decided to come to the sunset to try something different. Was very very disappointed. The food is bland / mediocre at best. Definitely not a 4 star restaurant. Add to that the 13usd price, which is higher than most other buffets in the city. The only reason I can think of that would explain so many high reviews is that residents in this part of town have very few Indian options, and have not had a chance to go to other, much better Indian restaurants that are located near downtown and surrounding areas.

I've been a fan of this place since I moved to the neighborhood three years ago. new management took over a few months ago and the food is better than ever! the new "chicken 65" curry is outstanding. mango lassi is INCLUDED in buffet, and I love the Bollywood films they show on TV.

What a wonderful spread, the most items in a buffet I've ever seen and tasted! A very kind owner and wait staff! Will definitely be back, no doubt about it!!

  • Jackie P.

Yum! So much ridiculously good food for the price. You get unlimited mango lassi, hot chai, and naan, in addition to all of the items on the buffet. It's almost overwhelming, because they keep bringing you more naan and hot chai before you finish what's already on the table! I really like that the buffet has so many options, and that all of the meat dishes have tons of meat in them. They definitely don't try and hide one or two tiny pieces of chicken in a gallon of sauce here.

Curry Village, how did you get such a high rating? Went there for their brunch buffet over the weekend, based on the yelp reviews. Not going back. Food ranged from bland (I'm looking at you, Aloo Ghobi) to dry (your turn, Chicken Tikka Masala). These are brunch buffet staples. Not a huge selection for vegetarians (how is this?) and even the desserts weren't that good (rice pudding features super minced up rice - odd.). The deal-ender for me, though (I'm pretty forgiving) was when the Tandoori Chicken was so salty that it was inedible. I have never in my life had chicken so salty that I couldn't eat it. As a liberal user of salt shakers, I like me some salt, but this was over the top. The rice itself was good. As was the yogurt dip (raita). I've seen some people qualify their reviews by saying they aren't Indian. It shouldn't matter one way or another because food is food and not everyone is looking for an authentic experience. Having said that, I actually AM Indian and I can attest to the fact that it's authentically pretty bad. Also, some cleanliness issues (flies and questionably clean flatware). Also, ALSO, and frankly, this can go either way depending on what you're looking for, but I was full the whole day from this. I had one plate that was of normal size. I just think it's questionable when food doesn't digest for, like, 11 hours. Like I said, though, you might consider this to be a plus. If so, rock on. Noori is also in the Sunset and hella good for Indian food.

Indian buffet. Good selection of curries and a bunch of other indian dishes. Vegetarian, lamb, chicken, fish. Mango lassi is pretty good here. Not too sour. They bring out garlic naan and chai tea for you. I think buffets are just too much for me. I had one plate of food and I was done. Probably wouldn't want to come back just because this is too much.

Food = delicious. Is it perfect? No. Why? Because, if it's sitting a heat lamp for more than x-hours, of course it will change the properties of the food! Buffet = great selection. I've had Indian curry for the past two weeks, but I've only been eating tikka masala (store bought, yo), and I was dying for saag paneer, and this place had it! Their clay oven chicken dishes are fabulous and moist! And their kheer is pretty awesome too. Prices = moderate. If you order the buffet, it's about $15.00 per person, with all of the mango lassi, chai, and sodas that you can drink. Service = friendly. They had Raiders game on yesterday, and once that was over...they turned on the Bollywood music videos! Woohoo! Oh, and apparently, you could order from their menu as well...haha

I thought this buffet was good. There was a lot chicken and potatoes. It definitely served up curry and therefore, lives up to its name. There's a lot of food to eat and it will fill you up. I loved the mango lassi as well as the sweat milk tea they served. The naan was good. I always pass by this place going on the N Judah and notice it. I would come here again.

1.5 stars. who are these people writing these glowing reviews? starving college students? food here was poor quality, no bright flavors, everything tasted old. i should have known when i came here on a saturday night at 8pm and there were only 2 seated tables. chicken tikka masala was too sweet. chicken tikka was bone dry lamb vindaloo was all fat. and gristle. paneer barely had any cheese. mango lassi was a neon orange with no yogurt. they don't close the buffet heaters, so everything gets crusty and dry at the top. the place did not feel clean. the only thing i found edible was the fresh garlic naan, samosas and the rice pudding. service was good. save your money, pay $3 more and have an amazing buffet lunch at amber india instead. or pay $3 & buy the frozen indian entrees at Trader Joe's. even those are more appetizing. *sad face*

First off, I love this place so much! FIRST THOUGHTS: Usually I would never walk into a place like this because, on the outside, it doesnt look very nice. But when I walked by, the smell completely drew me in. YUM! I let my nose direct me inside and it was definitely worth it. FOOD/PRICE: I probably come here once every two weeks and havent found any other Indian food in my area as good for the cost. Their naan and chai coffee are absolutely amazing. I never do the buffet because I never eat enough to justify the price (still cheap at $12). But, I love trying new things here and have enough for leftovers. SERVICE: I usually come during the evenings when the nicest young girl is waitressing. She is extremely attentive and pleasant to talk to. There have been times Ive come when she wasnt here and the service was way less than excellent. She is amazing! IN THE END: I was going to give them 4 stars because they can definitely improve the appearance of the place. And they should, because its amazing and people should want to walk in all the time. At the same time, they do not overcharge for their food and it still tastes great every time. So, 5 stars I think is earned.

My buddy and I were taking a break for lunch and decided to try some Indian food. Since a buffet was the same price as Naan and Curry would be, we decided to give Curry Village a try. My favorite dishes on the buffet were the saag paneer and the chicken tikka masala, though the paneer itself can sometimes be a little too firm. The naan here is awesome too and it's great for dipping or filling with curry. They even include mango lassi in the price, as well as dessert. My favorites were the ice cream, rice pudding, and the mango and pineapple dessert. Sometimes they even have gulab jamun, but it's served cold instead of hot. Overall, a solid buffet with good lunch prices. The food here caused a craving in me and I ended up returning two days later for dinner. Most of the dishes were the same but it was still some super tasty stuff. Service is pretty good but they do come by quite often to refill the water, chai, and naan even if you don't want it. I'll be back again! Food: 8/10 Service: 7/10 Price: $$ Atmosphere: 7/10

Naan is great (and bottomless!), chai is good, lassi is good. Structure and staff is quite confusing for new customers--no one helped us get seated or told us that it was open seating, the guy in the front room was on the phone and was not receptive. Most of the chicken tandoori was undercooked (3 of 4 pieces!) and the tikka masala was too sweet. Buffet is way overpriced ($14!). Flies all over. This place wants to be fancy/banquet-like, but it's a far miss. I'm not coming back here.

  • M J B.

The food here was mediocre in quality. We avoided the buffet since we didn't come in until around 8 pm and there wasn't a single other person in the place yet the buffet was still full. The service was, well, ahem.....unusual? The lady serving us truly seemed to be on some good stuff since she told us they were out of just about everything on the menu (as we attempted to order it, not before hand!), yet still brought each and every item they were "all out of" over the course of the next hour and a half! It was such an odd experience that I am just thankful I didn't get sick or stoned from eating the food. She earned about a 5 in terms of entertainment, zero stars in terms of actual service (we seriously could not get her to bring a single thing correctly), and the food is what earned the 3 stars. Probably will steer clear of this place in the future.

By far, Curry Village is one of the best Indian restaurants I'd been to so far. Their Chicken Tiki Masala is so, so flavorful. The curry itself is rich in color and quite thick, which coats the rice and naan very well. This is probably one of the best Tiki Masala I've ever had. The basamti rice is very flavorful by itself since it was made with many spices. The naan were a bit on the harder side--it would be nicer if it's a bit more soft. And to go with it all, a cup or should I say unlimited refill of their delicious Chai tea! It contains milk but the milk taste did not overpower the spicy taste of the Chai. It's steamy and aromatic, which is perfect for a rainy night or just any night. I want to get a take out of it next time.

Pretty good find! Came here for the all you can eat lunch buffet. Had the tikka masala which was delishious. Had the mango lasse which is also all you can drink YUM! Their veggie plates were good, I really liked everythig here!! The only thing I didn't love was the naan. It was so hard and thin. And I'm a big naan fan. I see myself coming back here for another stuff your face luncheon lol

I love this Indian buffet! The servers are so nice and accommodating and the food is so good and cheap! I think it's only around $11 for lunch! So worth it. My favorite dishes at the buffet are the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer, but everything else tastes great too! There's also free mango lassi and soda and some dessert selections (fruit, pudding, ice cream) at the end as well. They always serve us extra naan even though we obviously would not be able to finish it all. They just give us foil to take it home after. They also make sure our cups of chai and water are always filled. If you love Indian food, I definitely recommend this place!

The first time I came here, I was in indian buffet heaven. they had an amazing selection, great service, and yummy chai tea. I was so eager to come here again. I came here twice after, maybe a total of 3 times in a year and a half time span, and it was no where as good as my first experience. They had less food choices, and everything started to blend together and taste the same. The chai tea is still good, they still give naan left and right, and their service is still good. However, their food isn't as great as it used to be. the simosa is also way too large and way too dry. Their mango lassi was also too creamy and warm (they leave it out in a pitcher at the buffet). Another disappointment was that they changed the way they keep the food heated, which changes the way the food is presented. it looked like it was sitting there for hours. I'm sad to say that I don't think i will be coming here any time soon, or ever again. Side note - I went to pay and the woman (who is always very sweet) was making an extremely long phone call, which held up the line to put our credit card through. hopefully they can change that. i waited a good 20 mins at the cash register to pay for my meal. it made my last experience that much more disappointing

I went in on Valentine's Day for dinner with my Valentine, been wanting to try this place for a while. The staff seemed indifferent to our entrance, so we had to ASK if we were to seat ourselves, and if it is buffet only, or if a menu was available (there is a menu, we opted for the buffet). I am no restaurant critic, and certainly no expert on Indian cuisine. I am the 'starving college student' stereotype referenced by another reviewer-not rolling in green, and thankful for a decent meal. For $15, this place was WELL worth going back. As a CrossFit athlete, and a guy with an INCREDIBLY intense, high energy job, being able to come here and fill up on all this meat was a bargain! I am cultured enough to know 'average' food when I eat it, this was definitely average, perhaps a little above. Nothing I would necessarily recommend to anybody, nor would I steer anybody against it. For me, the bargain lies in $15 worth of meat dishes when I am hungry, and the fact that it is on the way home from work. If it were in another part of the city, safe to say I would not go out of my way to dine here. Something I will DEFINITELY return to, and definitely recommend to a co worker who lives in the area. ADDITIONALLY, the non dinner items were amazing! We were absolutely thrilled with the chai served! There were a few dessert items-an ice cream that I suspect was home made (?) and something green and pudding like (to be honest I piggishly inhaled 4 plates of dinner and 3 of dessert, so it's all a hazy memory now). The rice pudding was not good, I make this at home frequently, and this was as lack luster as it gets.

Curry village will be my new go to spot whenever I'm craving Indian food! I came here last week with my bf for dinner. We both decided to do the all you can eat dinner buffet option for $13.99. You get a variety of different curries, fish, chicken, fried goodies and even vegetarian options. My favorite was the chicken tikki masala curry and the lamb curry. I also really like the garlic nan! They keep bringing it to your table as you finish them. They also let you take the nan home if you can't finish it. There is also a dessert bar filled with salad, fruits ice cream and some green/white pudding dessert. I didn't like the white or green dessert. My bf absolutely LOVES the mango lassi! I'm so happy they have it there because at other indian buffets i've never seen it available. Lastly they bring you chai tea. I also didn't like the taste of this but it's free so i can't really complain. Nice staff and satisfying food..ill be back!

This is the kind of place that I randomly crave and I just have to go and pig out at the buffet. The service is very inconsistent, there's usually one lady tending the whole front of the the house. She's nice, but in general the workers can be indifferent/rude. One time I came in with my friends and we waited for over ten minutes before I just went to the kitchen to find someone. They seemed annoyed that I did. I've seen other customers just leave because nobody addressed them or was even around when they came in. The place seems a little dirty, the amount of flies kind of bothers me. Luckily all the food is covered. But if you can get past that, the amount of pretty solid food you get for your money is awesome. There are even tons of drinks (get the mango lassi) and endless fresh naan that comes straight to your table. Its really tasty too, crisp on one side, fluffy, buttery and garlicky on the other. The curries all seem to be sweeter than any other place I have been to, especially the Chicken Tikka Masala, which I am convinced has crack in it because once I taste it, I am completely addicted. This is a fun place to just gorge and get your Indian food fix for a good price. Their selection isn't too small, but I actually wish it was a little larger. The eggs in the egg curry is always overcooked and rubbery and I just stay away from the fish altogether. But for the most part, its yummy, although you might feel guilty because it doesn't seem at all healthy. Its a place to give into your most naughty eating instincts. Creamy, buttery, fatty deliciousness.

Visited Curry Village yet again and left completely satisfied! My favorite item on the buffet line is the Aloo Tikki (grilled potato patties) but I always have bad timing whenever we stop in. During my previous visit (before today), we stopped in right when the dinner buffet started and the delicious patties were nowhere to be seen. After satisfying my craving with the other entrees, we paid our tab an hour later and out come the potato patties. Nimmi was very sweet and encouraged us to keep eating despite the fact that we already paid. Although I was stuffed, I forced myself to gobbled down three Aloo Tikkis. We stopped in today for dinner and the Aloo Tikki were all gone. I asked Nimmi if they would have more and she informed me that she would bring some out soon. As I devoured the other specialties, Nimmi came by our table a few times and conversed with us. She then had one of her cooks bring us a plate of the Aloo Tikki before they were out on the buffet line! If you are in search for an Indian restaurant to fill your craving, I highly recommend Curry Village. Delicious food Bottomless Chai Tea & Mango Lassi Bottomless Garlic Naan (that they allow you to take home if you have leftovers) Exceptional Service At a great price! We will DEFINITELY BE BACK!

This place is a sugar land- I was looking forward to having a exotic Indian spices but all thing seems soaked into sugar. One thing I could not stand: sugarly taste of Indian tea. Every food compromised with sugar. Unless Americans resist tempting for sugar the weight problem has no solution. We have to force the Food Industry reduce sugar and be honest about the side effect of overly sugared food. I won't go back. It was not worth the money.

A little bit Bollywood entertainment while stuffing yourself silly with AYCE Indian Cuisine. What more could you ask for? If you don't own a car, good place to go to since it's right on the N Judah line. However, it is a pain searching for parking if you decide to drive here. But once you get here, make sure to bring your appetite since the food is bountiful and the entertainment is Bollywood-tastic. They show endless loops of Bollywood music videos from Bollywood movies. A definite pleasure for all the senses. The Chicken Tandoori is absolutely tender and packed with delicious flavor. It looks dry, but don't let the looks fool you. The Lamb Curry hits the spot...especially if you love lamb. And the Basmati Rice is plentiful to balance out the meal. There's also plenty of vegetarian options and a little bit of fried fish. Honestly, if you try to sample them all, you might go on overload. All of these plus the AYCE comes with Soda, Chai Tea and a wonderful, tasty, scrumpcilicious Mango Lassi. If you haven't had Mango Lassi before, the flavor is like picking up the Mango straight from the tree and made into a puree of goodness that is similar to the consistency of a milkshake. It's friggin' awesome if you love Mango. Service is excellent and the Garlic Naan Bread is a heaping mountain that you can take to go if you don't finish it all. Trust me, it's a feat if you do finish them all. Need I say more? You'll feel like dancing to some Bollywood music while rubbing your tummy to a full satisfaction. I normally don't do Indian all you can eat buffets--especially in silicon valley, as they are nothing more than leftovers for techies more interested in fueling up than enjoying a nice lunch. I do make an exception when in San Francisco, and I head over to Curry Village. The buffet has great chicken dishes, including several curries. The tandoori chicken is good, but the curries are better, including the vegetable ones. I don't eat lamb, but I've been told it's good also. The naan comes hot and fresh, topped with that butter/oil and sauted garlic/shallots(?). There are also unlimited drinks, including really good mango lassi. The naan and lassi alone are worth going for. But they also have a reasonable dessert offering, including rice pudding, fruit, and ice cream. They raised prices recently, but it's still very reasonable for lunch--especially if you're a big eater.

Newbies to Indian cuisine should always go to a buffet first. I say this because although I loveee Indian food, I always encounter the same problem. I can never pronounce the names of the dishes, and I am always lurking on the neighboring tables to see what they ordered. I don't know WHAT i'm ordering, and I don't know WHAT I have ordered in the past. "oh you know, that dark green pile of slop and oh yea, i'll also take that orange pile of slop." Shame on me. However, at Curry Village, they prepare 10-12 different entrees for me to explore. Now I don't have to butcher the language, and I get a visual of what each entree is. I would highly recommend the Chicken Tikki Masala, the orange pile haha. On top of that, they also have a salad and fruit bar. Unlike other Indian restaurants, I have gone to, they actually bring the drinks to your table. Soda, chai tea, and mango lassi is free! The mango lassi tastes like a mango pudding, blended into the texture of a milkshake. Quite yummy, I must admit. And it doesn't stop there, unlimited fluffy, fresh, garlic naan is delivered right to your table! I have to give props to the servers here. Super attentive and fast! My naan plate was never left empty, and neither was my chai tea cup. I would recommend finding a parking spot in the neighborhood, instead of a metered spot if you like to take your time and take advantage of the $12 lunch buffet, like I did. I will be back for another Indian food coma.

Go here for the buffet, the prices for the meal basically don't make it worth it to get something standard. The food is of either moderate to delicious quality, I had a large sample of a lot of things here and I never thought anything was bad tasting, some of the curry was a bit to sweet, the mango lassi was watered down, but the fried fish and shrimp vindaloo easily make up for it. The pakora and wada available are also nice, they also provide cans of soda for you soda drinkers. The nicest thing though is the service, they were attentive and we even stayed past closing and they never tried to rush us out and even offered us a doggy bar for the leftover food that we didn't eat at the buffet, that's super nice of them. One of my favorite indian buffets in the city easily!

Hmm.. I am completely baffled by all the 5-star reviews. Have people just not had quality Indian food before? We went in for dinner around 8:30pm. At that point, the buffet looked like it had been sitting out for many hours - and it probably had. The place was completely empty, so it's not like the trays were being emptied and getting refilled. The food was lukewarm, not hot. There was definitely a large assortment of dishes available. However, having tried every single one of the vegetarian dishes, I can honestly say that not a single one was good. The saving grace that gets this place 2 stars and not 1? The unlimited mango lassi was actually pretty decent, and the naan came out plentiful and piping hot. Overall though, there's no chance I'll be making the trek back out to the sunset for this place again.

12/22/12 ~8:30 P.M. (we've eaten there at various times of the day) my husband and I visited Curry village for the umpteenth time, this time taking yet another one of our family members visiting for Christmas. 1. NEVER have we experienced such a disgusting environment to eat at in all the years of dining out but were humiliated as well in front of the entire restaurant when pointing out the raw meat on the plate and the fact we were indifferent with the fact they had three (yes, THREE) fruit fly traps NEXT to the ENTIRE buffet area. 2. Rodents or wasps, etc. of ANY kind shouldn't be welcome where food is made or eaten (we experienced fruit flies in our faces from the moment we began serving ourselves food, throughout eating and I personally pulled one out of my drink and my rice). 3. Food should ALWAYS be cooked fully and NEVER be raw (my husband's chicken was raw from the buffet). While those numbers 2 and 3 are common sense and health code violations if not up to standard, THIS restaurant on this evening not only screwed up BUT were incredibly rude and created an environment which was the most terrible time eating out EVER. Kindly speaking to a woman turned into her yelling at me in front of an entire restaurant. Not only humiliating but I plan on attempting to see if it's possible to have a county health inspector check in on the issue as it cannot be healthy to have the public eating food in that environment! Will NEVER EVER return and DO NOT RECOMMEND anybody support a business such as theirs. In San Francisco, there are several hundred other Indian joints. These people don't deserve the respect when they cannot provide any.

Five Stars, hands down. Homegirl has been on an Indian food hype since last month. Been wanting it all the damn time (that's what she said). I've tried a couple of Indian joints recently and even ventured into their lunch buffet hours and Curry Village thus far has been my fave. For $12, you can indulge yourself in about 10 different entrees, which is a pretty decent amount compared to some of the other places I've gone too. And oh! There's also a little salad/fruit bar with a couple of desserts as well. Soda and mango lassi also included in the buffet, thank you very much. But the best part about Curry Village has to be their attentive service. Not once did I have to ask for a refill. The lady brought us the water and chai tea, along with the garlic naan which she continuously refilled and asked if we wanted more pieces. She was always checking up on us and making sure we were taken care of. She was practically the only one working the floor, and mm as I always say, all you need is ONE efficient worker and you're solid. I was a little disappointed in myself, admitting defeat after two rounds but the homies and I are planning to go again for lunch tomorrow, so we'll see who has the last laugh then.

We walked in. I said "Oh shit, it's a buffet. This is going to be bad." And it was that deliciously bad kind of thing that only results from all you can eat buffets with good food. The buffet comes with: - serve-yourself soft drinks and mango lassi - chai - unlimited garlic naan - a dessert bar - regular food. I had chicken tikka masala and saag paneer, tandoori chicken breast, and a couple of pieces of fried veggies. It was all very tasty. The price was $14.99 when we were there. But it's still a good deal all-in. I also don't feel the need to tip 20% when you're literally serving you're own drinks, so I think my total was somewhere around $18.30. For SF, not a bad deal at all.

5 star across the board for what it is worth for. $15 all you can eat Indian buffet, includes mango lasso, chai, garlic naan, fish and shrimp in the menu. Plus best chicken tikka masala in town.

I think I got the wrong thing here (yellow curry with chicken). It was just OK and texture was odd. I'll go back and try something else.

We poked our heads in because it was there, we needed lunch, and I like a good Indian buffet. Meant to keep walking but the smell of food and spices was so good I couldn't quite bring myself to back out. I didn't want to stay because, frankly, I don't like having TVs on while I'm eating. But, again, there was that SMELL and it was amazing and I had to know: was the food that good? The food. Oh yes. It was, indeed, that good. If you look at my reviews, you might think I'm an easy five. I'm not; I don't like to say negative things about an establishment if I can help it. It's a hard business, restauranting, serving humans, and why add to someone's burden? Where I can, I prefer to review good places. To eat at good places. Or even fabulous places. I had eaten at another Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. Lovely from the outside, no TV, very classy. The food perfectly servicable. But that's the best I can say: servicable. Not exciting. At Curry Village the quality of the food is stunning. Fresh ingredients I could taste. Spices that must have been mixed on-premises, with good sources. I tried some 10 dishes at that buffet, including desserts, and couldnt' find one that I didn't want more of, with predictable results. I ate until I couldn't eat any more, and then I sat for a while hoping to find room to fit a few more bites in the corners because, yes, it was that good. If you are in SF near the inner sunset and love Indian food, you owe it to yourself to try this place. Let me put this another way: I am rating this place five stars despite the TVs because there isn't a six-star option.

Soooo good... I always have the buffet, and I know, everyone thinks "Oh another Indian buffet" but this is NOT your typical buffet. I live in the neighborhood and can always depend on a good lamb curry or juicy tandoori chicken, flavorful tikka masala and fresh naan with beverages of choice lined up next to the buffet (including mango lassi). And the owner is so nice and charming!! She always is very welcoming and concerned about the quality of the food. Great place.

I'm so glad my friend brought me here! It's an Indian buffet that has the best chicken tikka masala ever! It is so sweet and tasty -- makes my mouth water just thinking about it :p. Unlim mango lassi (delicious thick mango drink), chai tea & garlic naan (warm & fluffy). The cleanliness is alright, there were some flies around our table. :| But overall, this place is a package......a cheap buffet that is actually super duper tasty? I will be a customer for life. lol, it's worth a try, at least you'll be full when you leave. :)

This is the type of restaurant that forces you to ask yourself, "Will I regret this decision later?" I'm truly baffled by the high rating on Yelp. The pictures look mildly deceiving -- none of the dishes looked that fresh or appetizing IRL (in real life). Myself and two others dined at Curry Village last week, they offered a buffet-style lunch for $10.99 per person. The customer service was very friendly, the restaurant appeared clean, and the restaurant was conveniently located by UCSF Hospital. The food itself was very underwhelming/disappointing, especially for the price. Being vegetarian, there weren't too many dishes to choose from -- the ones offered were visually unappealing, lukewarm, and NOT tasty. The two other people at the table tried the meat dishes -- one claimed the meat was very dry and just 'OK', the other enjoyed the chicken tikka masala. The two positives were the complimentary chai tea and garlic naan. I'm assuming the three of us were served 15 pieces (literally) of naan in hopes of filling us up, rather than consuming their mediocre food? Don't get me wrong, the naan was DELICIOUS.. the best part of my meal! Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

I know, you can't really expect much from a buffet, but I've had a few Indian buffets in the South Bay that I loved. Some of the dishes I had, were barely warm and the curries were not as flavorful as I like. The garlic naan is excellent though. Beverages, such a chai and soda, are included with the buffet. The service was friendly and good, but the food didn't satisfy my curry craving. I don't think I will be coming back.

This is by far my favorite Indian buffet place ever! and the price is sooooo cheap. Only $15 a person. This place is very clean and there is a great variety of food, including garlic naan, mango lassi, soda, chai, and a shrimp dish. All the food are good to me (although I am not the best to judge when it comes to Indian food). The owner lady here is amazing. She gives one of the best customer service I've seen in any restaurants. She constantly comes to our table asking us if everything is fine, if we need any refills on anything, and even packed us some naan bread to-go. If you like Indian food, you will not be disappointed by the buffet here.

I finally tried the buffet and left full. VERY full. I wasn't able to eat as much as other buffets because the food was very rich. Don't get me wrong, it was extremely delicious. All the sauces and delicious beverages, mango lassi and chai tea, took up a lot of room in my tummy. There is a wide variety of foods available to try. That's the great thing about buffets, you can fill up on all the stuff you like and skip the other stuff. Fortunately for me, I liked most of it. I especially loved the naan. Oh, yummy yummy naan. I think the best part was the service. I was introduced to the owner by my friend who frequents Curry Village. She was really nice and came to refill your drinks very often.

I practically live on Indian food and have become quite the regular here. Always great service and the chai tea and naan are the best I've had in the city. I usually eat from the buffet, but the food you order from the menu is even better!

Came here for late night dinner buffet for about $15 per person and mentioned the 15% off for yelpers, bringing the cost down to a little more than $12 a person. For the cost and the array of food Curry Village has, it's a pretty good deal. No of the curries were amazing but were all decent. The major pluses was the unlimited mango lassi (wish it was served cold but I just added ice to my drink) and the warm, fresh naan. If the lunch buffet has the exact same selection, this will be a great lunch deal. What I recommend: -- Lunch or dinner buffet and don't forget to mention yelp for 15% off

A great foodie place I jumped to while hanging for a day and exploring Judah St. All the food here was fantastic. I had the veggie samosas and chicken saag, both were awesome. The portions were huge and the prices can't be beat, wish we had a place like this back home.

I'm not an indian food fan but this is a HIDDEN GEM!! way better than nann & curry. Curry Village makes Nann & Curry looks LOW class. Buffet style $15 (plenty of food). Lots of meat. Not the small chunks of meat. The lamb and chicken are cooked well. its not fancy but definitely clean and the customer service was good. Buffet includes drinks, salad and all the nann you want. They even bring the nann to you! like fresh off the oven until you want to stop. haha

Indian lunch buffet! Good prices, which include drinks. Refreshing mango lassi! The customer service was exceptional, very welcoming and attentive. 3 stars for the food, not a lot of vegetarian options, but overall okay. Naan was yummy! Extra star for service and price

Pretty sure my jaw dropped when I found out that this place was a buffet. Walking into the restaurant, my friend and I just thought we were in for a casual Indian lunch but NO, we're bombarded by a great variety of Indian plates set up BUFFET STYLE. It was a pretty late lunch so boy were we hungry! Quickly grabbed a plate and tried a bit of things like the chicken tikka masala, chicken curry and saag paneer. Sat down and was just scarfing down this delicious buffet style meal when out of NOWHERE, the waiter comes by and brings both GARLIC NAAN and some CHAI TEA. All included! Like are you serious? The meal couldn't get any better. Left the restaurant completely satisfied and my friend and I couldn't wait for our next trip already. They've got lunch AND dinner buffets that includes the naan, tea, and other stuff like mango lassi for JUST 10 BUCKS. This place should be $ not $$! Only complaint: service could have been a little friendlier and quicker. But still not enough to bring this place down to 4 stars. 5 STAR WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER.

$9.99 has never gotten me so shamefully full.. Came here for the first time at around 2PM with my girlfriend and.. *After taking our seats* CV - "Do you want the buffet?" Me - "Uh.. do you have a menu or what else is there?" CV - "All you can eat lunch buffet until 3PM -- $9.99" *Eyeballs over a dozen pots with serving spoons, a salad-bar-looking station, and even a dessert corner* Me - "Only? For EVERYTHING!?!?" .. and then begun our Indian adventure through Curry Village! To make a long review short: The food can be a hit or a miss. - fried potato won ton thing was cold - fried fish was bland - spicy chicken thighs were dry - chicken curry was tender! - lamb curry was good - spinach was one of my favorites - eggplant was good - naan bread was fresh and the best I've ever had! [ s3-media1.px.yelpcdn.com… - different rices wasn't warm but edible - lycee dessert was funky.. - indian-gelato-looking dessert was good Can't remember the other dishes but the rest were alright. Overall, I got ridiculously full.. and it was sad. In the end, you see me laying down on the chair, slouching in defeat, grasping for air, and staring at their Indian VH1.. but it was all cool. I was full, had a good experience, and fed my inner curry cravings. *Uncle's voice" ONE MORRE THINGG! -- Don't forget to mention Yelp upon getting your bill, you'll get 15% off your TOTAL BILL. THAT'S INSANE!

Authentic Indian food. Came here with my family for dinner. Uma was a funny host/server and taught me not to waste me food...haha. SO KIDS, DON'T WASTE YOUR FOOD! We got a lot of garlic naan, which went well with the yellow(?) chicken curry. This is probably my second favorite indian place next to evergreen...all the way in Oregon. Never go to naan-n-curry ever again, that would be ridiculous. It's like....a mcdonald's to indian cuisine. Oh my my, their chai tea is delicious. I would have drank more if I weren't going to sleep tonight. Love the rice pudding for dessert, but then again, I am a girl who loves dessert. I will be back for their lunch deal.

Excellent cheap Indian buffet. $10 for lunch. AYCE nan, curry, tandori, and mango lassi goodness. The tikka masala is good. Nan is fluffy on top and crispy on the bottom: ideal. Great to chill out there for lunch, snacking and drinking mango lassi

Indian buffets rule the world! I've always been a regular of the local indian food spots in the sunset but Curry Village has now crept to the top of my list. Today I had chicken vindaloo, chicken tandori, shrimp vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, saag, paneer, mango lassi, ice cream, yogurt, unlimited access to chai tea and unlimited garlic naan all for $10.84 (tax included)! What a great deal! The first few times I went to Curry Village, I pretty much stuffed my face and had curry acid reflux for hours after but now, I pace myself and take my time. I wouldn't say that the quality of the food is great but it's definitely acceptable for a buffet and surpassed my expectations. This place is very spacious and good for groups and long meals. And the cherry to top off your indian food craving: Mention yelp and get 15%!

1.HORRIBLE, GREASY food. NOTHING like what authentic Indian food tastes like. 2. The only reason I can imagine it has 4 stars on yelp is because it is rated by people who don't know much about Indian food. 3. My boyfriend and I felt so gross after eating the food that we wanted to throw up! No, we are not bulimic. 4. If you respect your body and appreciate the great subtleties of nice Indian food, please do not go here. 5. One start for the salad and chai(was too sweet). WHO KEEPS RANCH NEXT TO RAITA IN A BUFFET? I cant begin to explain how horrible the sip of ranch was thinking that it was yogurt (no, it wasn't labeled). :-| HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. For the first time ever, I didn't tip at a restaurant.

how does this place have 4 stars? this is some of the worst indian food i've ever had. maybe aangan in albany has spoiled me but this place needs to address some sanitary issues before even thinking of serving food. fruit flies everywhere. serving spoons were unclean. buffet counter needed to be wiped down. the list goes on. when i first walked in for dinner, i was confused because i was expecting a menu with wait service sort of thing but there was a buffet spread with only one table occupied (usually not a good sign). considering the yelp reviews, though, my roommate and i decided to try the place out (later we realized that if you sit toward the back of the restaurant, you can opt out of the buffet & order separate entrees, appetizers, etc.). tandoori chicken was super dry, and the top layer of all the curries were crusting over (for how long does the food sit out?). tikka masala didn't even taste or look like tikka masala. saag paneer was tasteless & mushy. roti was super salty. after the naan cooled down, it immediately hardened and was difficult to chew through. $15 per person for dinner on the weekend. not worth it. also, after i left, i skimmed through some of the yelp reviews and saw that this place has been shut down twice by the health department in the last few months. apparently its health inspection scores is somewhere in the 50s? seriously? how is this place still open? beware of curry village. there are plenty of good spots on irving just a block or so away.

"Okra" is one of those words that perks my ears up and gets my eyes darting around like "Whoa, where?". It's also a word in the menu of this restaurant, which means I was already warming up to the place before we'd tasted anything. I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed, once we got our items. We got a la carte instead of the buffet. From the time we ordered, it was something like 15-20 minutes for us to get... our beverages. They weren't mixes or anything, just bottles. After this, it was a bit more waiting for the freebie crisps that come with three chutneys. More time, then onion bhaji. A while more saw the naan and roti arrive. Around 45 minutes after having ordered, the okra and buttered lamb touched down and completed our spread. This was on a Thursday evening with no other orders going on (one other group was present, but they were finishing the last bits of their meal and leaving). I've been in one or two restaurants where service defaults to "coursing out" your order. You tell them your appetizers, entrees, sides, and whatnot at the beginning. You initially receive only the appetizers. Once you've finished them, the plates are taken away in exchange for the entrees, and so on for further courses. I didn't think to ask if something similar was going on here, but I don't think that was the case. Our server, the only one in the place, told us they'd gotten sidetracked talking with friends. There was no telling what news that conversation brought, for I couldn't get a read on their demeanor. It was a dice roll because sometimes the facial expression would seem to say that my friend and I were an annoyance, like when we asked what one of the chutneys was (it was a plum sauce) and when we asked if they could point out on our plate again which was naan and which was roti. Yet genuine grins shone at other times. All in all, our server was polite and pleasant. A funny thing was that, when we asked for drinks, I was carded. Out of the ordinary was not that but what followed, an explanation that the server was just doing their job. Okay. But then the rationale continued into telling us how they didn't want to get shut down and arrested for making a mistake - just one mistake. Because you never know. By then I was wondering if this talk might be coming from experience, especially with the skitterings of nervous laughter. But you know what? About 15 minutes afterward, police arrived to eat dinner. So maybe that's what that was all about. We liked everything we ordered. I thought it was a little odd that, considering our particular dishes, two of the three accompanying chutneys were very sweet (my friend compared them to marmalade). But I know next to nothing about chutneys. Maybe things are just sweeter in the part(s) of India represented by this restaurant. I'd believe that, going by the snippets of culture portrayed in the pop music videos streaming overhead. I don't know what was up with the spice levels either. I ordered the okra mild and my friend's lamb "one step above medium", but guess whose dish was hot(ish) and whose wasn't? I wasn't certain whether this was a mix-up or a case of spiciness being watered down for non-Indian people. One other question: if our server, and presumably others working in the back, had black hair, then whose was the long dirty blond strand wrapped in my napkin? In any case, we had a satisfying meal with bigger portions than my friend expected. If we make it back here, I'll try to remember to bring a board game or dress in provocatively exuberant clothes to dance along with the music videos as we wait on our food.

If you're going to eat here for the lunch or dinner buffet, it's best to bust out with the Thanksgiving pants because your tummy will be exponentially larger when you leave. As my male friend stated upon completion of the meal, "I feel like imma pop out a baby!" And if it weren't for its anatomic impossibility, his protuding belly would've indicated so. We came for the dinner buffet, and although it made me realize obesity may not be as far off as I thought, all of the tasty food was definitley worth the $15 price tag (mention yelp and it's $13!). I'm totally weaksauce when it comes to spicy foods, so most of the dishes included in the buffet were beyond my tolerance. However, despite the hot burning in my mouth, I could still taste the deliciousness of the food in between the mouthfuls of H2O I had to gulp down. Also, the variety of food included is crazy! I even made a list of all the options just so I could showcase this variety in my review. Yes, I was the creepy one lurking at the buffet table, making note of every dish I could on my iPhone notepad. Here is what it amounted to: chai tea, soda, mango lassi, lamb curry, garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, matar paneer, basmati rice, mixed veggies, roasted chicken kabob, samosa, pakora, tandoori chicken, pappadum, sheesh kabob, kheer, gulab jamun, mixed fresh fruits, tamarind sauce, mango and mint chutney, yogurt sauce, saag w/shrimp, salad + ranch dressing, AND even freakin egg rolls. For me, the standouts were the samosas, chicken tikka masala, and matar paneer. And while this may seem like an exhaustive list, it's still not everything since I couldn't determine what some things were and identification cards were lacking. With this much selection, it's no wonder we left with such grossly uncomfortable fullness. As if the tasty food and awesome selection aren't enough, the customer service way surpassed expectations too. I don't eat at buffets often, but I always thought it was a "what you see is what you get" type of deal. Apparently, that doesn't apply here. The waiter noticed I was struggling to eat my spicy tikka masala since he had to refill my water 2x in a span of 10 minutes. So, what did he do? He brought out a personalized, mildly spicy tikka masala of his own volition just for me! And we're not talking about a small bowl here. It was a HUGE platter full of delicious tikka masala, with chunks of lychee too. I've never had lychee in tikka masala before, but for the record, it's pretty amazing. Between the continuous supply of garlic naan, my platter of delicious tikka masala, and all the goodies at the buffet table, we had plenty of leftovers. And for the final thing knocking Curry Village up to 5 stars...they gave us take-out boxes for those leftovers! What?! Where have buffets like this been all my life? They break the two cardinal rules of buffet eating and the consequences are ridiculously sweet (minus the heart failure and diabetes). 5 stars!

There's something for everybody with this buffet. I love that your meal includes the mango lassi, chai tea and naan! My fave dish is their lamb vindaloo. The staff are so accommodating ensuring your drinks are topped and you have enough naan. What surprised me is that they let you pack up your leftovers. I'll definitely come back.

Go here. Now. Get off of the computer and go to Curry Village. That's an order. Price: Seriously $14.99 buffet with unlimited Chai, water, and freakin Mango Lassi. What more could you possibly ask for? Also the beers were $3.50! Service: Super attentive, very friendly. Stereotypically Indian in the sense that they won't take no for an answer if you want a chai refill (Some people may not like this aspect of the service). By the end of the night, I was definitely on a sugar/caffeine rush. They even asked us to take the naan home after we were done! Did I mention this was a buffet? Food: and this is where one of the stars comes off. I thought the Samosa was pretty tasteless and that's absolutely unforgivable. Other than that the food was fantastic. It's standard Indian fare - Chicken tikka, paneer, pappadam, plus a wonderful array of dessert (even Kulfi!). the other reason why a star was lost was because it just wasn't spicy enough. I am on a quest to find decently spicy Indian food. Someone help me. Oh, the other thing: They don't play absurdly loud music or any music at all for that matter. It's usually not a big deal, but it does lend itself to that wonderful moment where you say something completely inappropriate right when it gets quiet. Just a word of advice Overall, based on the price and service I would come here again. It's not the best Indian food I've had (that credit, of course, goes to my mother!), but it's not awful either.

First of all, my favorite food is Indian! These are strong words but out of all of the MANY indian restaurants I have tried, Curry Village tops them all!!! The food: Delicious! (everything they make)! The Service Great! They always bring the non bread out right away! (not many other places do that!) they treat you very well! The Atmosphere/Decor: a very clean environment and authentic Indian feel! The Prices: Very Good for the HIGH quality of food! Overall if you like Indian Food trying this place is a must!!!

This review is for dine-in service. Mostly everything on the menu tastes great. I just don't really like the customer service. I'm guessing the owner was taking our order -she seems like she could care less about the customers. Came here around 4:00pm ish. It was around the same time that I first visited this place. Both times there was someone SWEEPING the floors and shaking dirt off the carpet in the back while people were eating! I don't know if the staff was stupid or what but that is highly unacceptable. The owner did not even care. I do not like the customer service here -its no wonder the place was empty. I would not come back to dine-in but might just get take out. Most items are under $10 and for the quality of the food I would give 3 stars.

okay, so it's been a while since I wrote a review, but I've been moving around to all of the major coastal Californian cities. Now that I'm settled in, I have started to discover some new gems that I must review, like Curry Village. Stumbled in here on my first day of work at my new job. Went to Nann-n-Curry, but it was closed for remodeling and I was starving like Marvin. $9.99 lunch buffet, 15% off for yelpers (which I did not take advantage of), give free naan, and they have lamb, chicken, beef, and shrimp in their buffet. Also, the buffet includes drinks including Chai, Mango Lassi, or sodas. I was sold immediately. They had some tandoori chicken wings that were so good, they almost stole my allegiance from buffalo style. very tender, flavorful and smokey. The other tandoori chicken though was breast meet chunks and it was very dry and inedible. There was also some other kabob meat (beef maybe?) that had been skewered and grilled and was pretty decent, but not worth filling up on. The Chicken Tikka Masala was decent, a little sweet for my taste, but this is not my favorite dish anyway. The chicken was white meat, but was very tender and juicy. Just not really a fan of Masala. The chicken vindaloo on the other hand was outstanding!!! the chicken was soooo tender and flavorful, this dish was a big time winner, but not the winner. The winner would probably have to be the shrimp vindaloo, which was similar, but just really blew me away. I really love seafood and to have such a rich, spicy, flavorful version of something like shrimp was so refreshing. The lamb vindaloo was also quite good. I love lamb because of its gamey flavor and this version delivered. It was a little tougher than some versions I've had, but still very edible. They had a beef dish that was interested, but not my favorite. The beef tasted like it was ground and maybe mixed with some kind of breading or something. The dal was pretty good, but I didn't eat much of it. One of my favorite dishes is Saag Paneer and this version was outstanding. They cooked dried red chilies into the Saag, which added some spice and amazing flavor. It was a bit more oily that the other versions I have had, probably from the chilies. It was delicious, but rich. Finally, the vegetable Masala was the bomb. For someone who is not a big fan of Masalas, I really enjoyed this dish. The cauliflower that they used and the paneer were so good. I did not try the deserts, but they had a really nice salad out that I did take advantage of. They also had basmatti rice and some kind of biryani rice dish. The service was great for me, but the woman running the place seemed a little cold. She was very attentive though and kept my water filled at all times and checked in with me every few minutes. Needless to say, I left stuffed and very satisfied for $10 bucks. C'mon now, that is a great deal. I knew I was going to get fat moving to SF, but Now I know where it's going to happen. Good thing I have to walk up a big hill back to work.

The good -Fluffy, warm, and fresh garlic naan -lamb curry! -Fresh Chai -Mango lassi- good, but needs to be chilled -Great service- they serve you chai and naan and clean up empty plates -Cheap! Well worth the 8.50 for a buffet. The bad -Somosas- too much dough, too little stuffing. Stuffing wasn't good either. -Curry- some are too sweet + meat is dry 3 stars because most of the curries weren't really good, that those were a big part of the buffet. But I'd come back for the naan and chai =)

Daaaaang, girl, all I can say is when I'm spending 15 bucks on curry, rice, and a little ass cup of raita, it better be pretty tasty, but this was not even a little. I guess maybe if you get the buffet, it gets a little better, but I was getting takeout, so I had to pick one thing, and let me tell you, the butter chicken is not that great. They boast a tomato and yogurt curry, which is what it's supposed to be, but what I had just tasted like nothing with occasional bursts of unpleasant flavor. The only upside was the almonds, which were only good because almonds are amazing. So way to not ruin the almonds, I guess. I haven't had Naan & Curry for years, but if memory serves, it's better than this place. Haven't tried Masala Dosa, but I'm betting it'll be better than this place. Oh, and I hadn't eaten all day, so I was FAMISHED. I had like 10 bites to take away the death in the pit of my stomach and threw the rest away, because gross me out. Oh, and the lady who rang me up was not very nice, which was disappointing because I had a long day, and I could have really used her support.

Surprisingly good. Solid buffet selection, very nice staff. Nothing greasy/heavy. Generous portions, including warm/light naan.

Came here for the buffet and it was really good for lunch, and super cheap and super fresh. What's better yet is that you can use your Yelp! Discount (15%) off on lunch, dinner, and even on the buffet - so in this way, you are saving on tip with the discount. The owner here is a really nice lady, always greeting customers with a smile and offering chai tea and constantly refilling it. For those who don't want chai, there's water, which is refilled at a good constant rate. Love it, and the service here is superb. Most of the lunch buffet items are pretty good, especially the chicken dishes and vegetarian dishes. I didn't try any of the seafood dishes because Indian food isn't very well known for seafood dishes...but mainly for their chicken, lamb, and veggie curries...all of which were really great. I like their chicken tikka masala (which I had for dinner one time and lunch buffet this last time) and has been consistently wonderfully spiced and tasty. But not only that, I love how they offer customers papadam... which is so tasty, fresh, and crispy. For their lunch buffet, there are about 10-15 buffet dishes ( I can't remember the exact number) but they also have a small salad bar, and include desserts like kheer, this mango dessert dish...as well as drinks like mango lassi and chai. They also have a lot of side sauces like tamarind sauce, mango chutney, mint chutney, and yoghurt--basically all the usual accompaniments that come with Indian food. Great! So from my experiences for lunch buffet and dinner, they were both really great and still gets a 5* review. I love you Curry Village! Thank you for being so hospitable and offering such tasty food. You guys rock!

01.17.11 $14 dinner buffet. An array of dishes. Go for the chicken tikka masala with freshly baked garlic naan. Masala chai. We were there for a good 2.5 hours. I smell.

3.5 stars for a late afternoon dinner buffet. The selection was very large but, probably because it was very late for lunch but too early for dinner the food had been sitting in their dishes too long and the chicken, shrimp and beef steak were all too dry. All flavors of the dishes tried were good for the sauces which suggest that if we'd chosen to come here when the items were first put out, they would have been 4-5 star. Still enjoyed the Saag Paneer and the Chicken Tikka Masala, but am giving them credit for the time the items had been sitting. Some very nice positives: fresh, hot generous servings of Naan. Terrific Mango Lassi's and the most excellent Chai that I've had at an Indian buffet. Service was good, with plenty of quick refills. This place definitely goes on our list of local places we want to give a second chance to see if our impressions of the dry meats was a fluke or validated what Cathrin P C. stated as well.

I'm in awe about all the high ratings and positive reviews. The service here really sucked. It was really slow and a bit awkward. As for the food, the buffet trays looked like they had sitting out for hours. I was afraid to even try any of it so I ordered off the menu. The chicken tikka masala was horrible. The naan was the only thing I liked here. I was completely mislead by these reviews. I won't be returning :/

Came back again, since I thought that maybe the buffet would be better. 14.99 per person for unlimited food, mango lassi, naan, and chai. The drinks are definitely great. The food is...decent. Alright, but not amazing. Still somewhat pissed off about the 45 minute wait last time.

Finally found out go to Indian place, even if it happens to be on the other side of the city! The Saturday lunch buffet was very good. About eight dishes to choose from, unlimited drinks including mango lassi, soft drinks and chai, and the best naan in the city. Reasonably priced, great service and relatively easy parking makes this place a must visit! So why not 5 stars? Some of their chicken dishes tasted the same. Same color, same flavor profile. O e was chunks and the other shredded. They were also sweet, which was unexpected. Fix that and you have a 5 star place.

Gets my highly coveted 5 stars! This place is a winner!! I live downtown but I'll go to Inner Sunset just to eat here. I opted for the buffet because.. well, how can you not?? $12.99 at lunch time. Served with naan and chai tea. I believe the mango lassi also came with the meal but I didn't get any. There is quite a selection such as tandoori chicken, samosa, pakora, masala, etc. My favorite was the fish tandoori.. yum! I didn't even get to eat any of the fruits and desserts, I was so stuffed. I will definitely come back.. I am crazy for Indian food and this is one of the better examples I've had anywhere. Good service also, place looked clean. I also enjoy watching the Bollywood videos on the TV haha. Like, like, like!

Our recent dinner (buffet) here was sadly mediocre. In the past many of the items were fairly spicy, and everything had tons of flavor - and quite different from what we'd consider the typical Indian restaurant interpretation. On this visit the food was extremely bland - nothing was remotely spicy and we didn't really feel like eating much of anything we tried. Half the food was lukewarm/cold and we just couldn't understand how all the dishes were so bland and flavorless- such a change from previous visits. We still enjoyed the mango lassi and naan that came with the buffet, but overall could have had a much better meal for $14 elsewhere. Disappointing - we hope they return to former form.

AMAZING BUFFET!! little on the expensive side ($15 if I remember correctly,) but they give you unlimited naan and mango lassi (well mango ras but it's something and your white friends won't be able to tell the difference). This is a gem!!

I wanted to write that Curry Village has the best Indian buffet in San Francisco, hands down. But if I did, then everyone would go there, and it would be impossible for me to get a table. So forget I ever mentioned it...

I used to love this place. The quality of the food has gone down. I feel like it's just random left over curry surprise sometimes. They also put tofu in for paneer a lot of the times which is a horrible lie! What really "cranked my gears" was that I was sitting next to a window and thought, "its a nice San Francisco summer day of a high of 65, foggy, and windy. This OPEN window is making me freeze and my food is now cold, I'll close it". I then got in an argument with the server about the open window. She wanted it open (a little bit, which in her opinion was 10 inches) because of the heat of the restaurant fogs the windows a little bit. I don't know if I'm feeling too entitled but I always thought the customer was always right. I finished my so-so left over veggie surprise curry as fast as I could so I could go home. It's also pretty pricey in my opinion.

Best Tandoori chicken that I've had on a buffet. My dining partner, who has traveled in India, commented that this style of Indian is a little different than what we typically find in the Bay-which tends to be Northern style. Some of the dishes had a slightly unpleasant smokiness. Most of the buffet was delicious. And, lots of Mango Lassi! Still searching for something superior to India Clay Oven on Clement.

Horrible Food! If ur a vegetarian then save yourself by not going here. Worst Tikka masala curry I ever ate.

Came here yesterday for the Lunch Buffet!! It was $12 a person, and they actually had a pretty good selection of food. My favorite was this thing near the salad/drinks...it looked like a crab cake, but it was fried on the outside and filled with potato on the inside. And I used the dark sweet sauce to dip it in...I had to go back for THIRDS!!!! Besides that, they have the usuall...chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, and a bunch of other typical indian plates...all relatively good! Also the chai tea was nice :)

I'll start with the positives - the chicken tikka masala is indeed tasty and fairly authentic, the Tandoori chicken is also good, and the people who run the restaurant are friendly. They also offer a discount for Yelpers, which is a nice touch. My dining experience on a Sunday at dinner time (6:30pm) was less than great. Many of the items at the buffet were overcooked (sitting too long) and the saag was burn. The staff was not monitoring the buffet, so they had run out of several dishes that are supposed to be part of the buffet. When we asked for more, they said it would take a while and we never did get to taste those dishes. The Naan is just ok and not authentic; more like an Americanized version or what they think non-Indian Americans might want. The chai is very sweet - too sweet. Overall, not a great dining experience. Is recommend trying other Indian places in the area over Curry Village.

Really nice owner. Clean place. Good value. We hosted a fun baby shower here - was a blast. Buffet had lots of options - including free mango lassi, chai, diet Coke. Wow. I didn't feel like I ate that much, except - was TOOOOOO full for too long. That was the big downside. Just kind of recovered - thankfully.

This is my spot! Delicious lunch buffet and very reasonable prices. Mango Lassi and Garlic Naan which are included with the buffet helps to round out the meal. The Bollywood videos are dope too. Come here if you are HUNGRY. Far and away one of the best tasting Indian Buffets I have ever been to - Best in the neighborhood for sure.

The place was actually full of young local hipsters with their skateboards leaned up against the walls and getting heaps of colorful dishes from the buffet table. Seemed like a good sign to me. It is a bit hard to maneuver around because of traffic from people paying, and what appeared to be restaurant owners showing their family their food? Confused as to what was actually going on. Little kids running through the restaurant were almost a challenge to to step on as they would be coming out from underneath the buffet table and running up and down the halls. It took a while for us to get our naan which isn't part of the buffet you have to ask for it.. which i thought was kind of a hassle and ridiculous. the food was OK i guess. nothing I'd want to revisit. A lot of it tasted very similar. The masala dishes added a lot more tomato than i would have cared for. confused as to why this place has 4 stars on yelp.

I'm totally a fan of Indian food for a long time, and me being from the sunset district, I happen to pass by a humble looking Indian buffet place along 9th Street. At first I thought the place was small since it has a retro exterior and a small place along the street. Going inside, the place was actually wide with a lot of seating towards the back; looks can be quite deceiving :) Going through the food selection, I am quite amazed of the deal the Buffet offers. Tikka Masala, Gobhi Aloo, Rogan Josh, Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer, the choices are endless! The Basmati rice is well made, really works well through the course of my meal! They also serve unlimited garlic naan (I must say they're very fluffy and delish), bottomless Mango Lassi (it was rich and flavorful, I guess they read another yelper's comment and changed a notch a bit) and my favorite Chai! As long as there's Chai, everything's all good! They also have desserts, Gulab Jamun, Rasgulla, fruits, ice cream, and my favorite Kheer (a rice pudding with milk), their Kheer is delish :) Overall, you should drop by the place when down for Indian Food especially if you happen to drop by Sunset or on the N Judah Line (yea they're pretty along the route of the N Judah, not to mention the 6, 43, 44 and 66 muni bus lines), you might as well bike there too so you can get ready for the buffet :) If I'm not mistaken, their best buffet deals are Weekday Lunchtimes where the Buffet deal is $10.00, also the normal price for their buffet is $14.00 :D You can't get a delish buffet for $10.00 anywhere especially for Indian food so better drop by noon today, you won't be sorry :D

4 star on hospitality, 3 on food. What makes it worth a try: 1. Variety in dishes. Starters range from pakora, samosa to potato filled rolls. Lots of non veg options in the main dishes but very limited veg ones. 2. Mango lassi. Thick, flavorful and unlimited. Saag- Paneer is good too. 3.Naans served were hot, crisp and just the right amount of thickness (most Indian restaurants serve naan as thick as a bread). Garlic naan is great. 4. Hospitality is great. The lady at the front desk is very attentive, polite and a great host. She made sure all the guests were attended to (we were a party of 15 persons). Even offered to pack some naans for take away. What can improve: 1. I m a vegetarian, so i was expecting more veg curries. No Panner, no Dal Makhni, was a little miss in the menu. Also, they have a lot of potato filled/ potato dishes on their menu, pls add variety here. Spring rolls are a better choice than, fried potatoes. 2. Found the food a little more spicy here. 3. Street parking is scare. However, paid parking is available at a walk-able distance. All in all, if you looking forward to an Indian buffet give this place a shot :)

Very high quality for a buffet, down to the fish and prawn curry options that you never see in these sorts of all you can eat joints. Everything is a little sour which I suspect has something to do with what region the proprietors are from. It's not bad or anything but it certainly is a little different.

I love Curry Village! They have that amazing buffet that, unlike other Indian all-you-can-eats is NOT just giant troughs of mystery curry. They serve the same items that are on the regular menu. I've only been there for early dinner and just as they were putting things out. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. In addition to nice curries, samosas, tandoori, they serve mango lassi, naan, and a few different types of desserts! I think the price is reasonable for what you get--everything including drinks is included. I only wish they would offer a takeaway option for, say, $2 extra you could take a plate of leftovers home. The woman who runs the place is lovely!

4 stars after frequently going to naan curry for years stumbled upon this place a block up while parking my car in the area. you can smell the spices and curry from outside accross the street is tasty curry mite try that place next time haha, ordered everything to go wait not so bad took about 20+min for 5 dishes and some garlic naan bread, the waitress in the front gave me a cup of there tea while I waited, tea was good, spot was super clean, more or less one of those spots built for buffets, I think they do buffets all week long during lunch. the food here folks is a lil more expensive then naan curry but wut they charge is for the full bodied flavor on every dish you can so taste the difference between a water down chicken tikka masala and thick creamy chicken tikka masala. list of things we tried: - chicken tikka masala: wow not watered down super creamy lil sweet big on taste - lamb tandoori: wow again lil heat on these lamb chops but the flavor was seared all the way through you can taste it from inital bite to grinding of meat next to the bone you try to get to with your teeth haha - lamb bhoona: very rich sauce, bell peppers, lamb chucks are juicy and tender - shrimp biryani: rice was lite heat usually follows the biryani plates medium heat for me for my wife low heat, shrimp was fresh not canned - garlic naan: for you dipping pleasure and another filler standard naan smell was intoxicating food **** 1/2 found my new indian spot haha service ***** ordered togo waiteress did not have to give me tea but she did. kudos!!! ambiance ***** super clean, organized pics of food, the bay bridge and other sites all over the walls price $$ some plates are over the $10 mark this is not naan curry folks you got to pay more to taste more =) also if you wait enjoy the bollywood dancing on both flat screen tvs haha they are hilarious

Don't understand how this place can get 4 stars. I've only had only a few Indian buffets in my life but this was not that good. Most buffets I've been to are under or just over $10, though this one you can really pig out for $15 with 2nd or 3rds and free all you can eat nan and bottomless chai and mango lassi. I have to say the garlic nan was very good - fresh, moist and crisp. The chai and lassi were also delicious. The veggie platters on the other hand were not so good - samosas and pakoras were hard and dry, the veggie dishes were pretty bland and tasted like they had been out for awhile, maybe just due to cheap ingredients. The saag paneer was okay. Fish vindaloo however was dry and tasteless. The free naan and bottomless drinks are the only reasons why I might come back and give it a second chance with some different, fresher dishes.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and I must say, we really enjoyed ourselves. The service was excellent, they kept coming by to refill our water, chai tea, and naan. When we were done with our meal, they even asked us if we wanted a to-go container for our naan! Never hear of them doing that for a buffet! All their dishes were really flavorful and nicely presented - not like how Naan n' Curry's buffet looks all messy and sloppy. They had lots of choices and I was happy to try a bunch of new things. My only complaint is their Chicken Tikka Masala wasn't as creamy as most places. Yay! I'm a fan.

Quiet, clean, close. This spot is the go-to for any and all indian food needs. Unlimited fresh naan and hot milk tea. I need to come here more often. Recommend to anyone trying to pack their body with as much curry it can retain.

This place is awesome. I've been to other Indian buffets where you have to pay extra for meat or for naan, but not here. All the meat is well cooked and well seasoned. I have trouble with extremely spicy food so I like spice level but if you need more, they have a whole grouping of seasonings and sauces. They also have fresh fruit which pairs really well with the food. I've gone here four or five times and I was a little intimidated by the waitress because she seems kind of glum or angry. But after talking with her last time she's super nice and cute! Overall, Curry Village is one of my favorite Indian restaurants, and probably my favorite buffet restaurant, in SF.

"This is where I've always wanted to be." . Variety (10+ dishes to sample) . Mango Lassi and chai tea . Crisp samosas . Wonderfully warm, pillowy naan, slight outer crunch, cilantro, made-to-order . Sunday brunch, $12 Is this the best Indian food you'll find in the city? (Of course not). It is, however, one of the best Indian buffets that I've ever visited. (Thank you, Curry Village).

I went here with a friend on a Friday night around 7PM for the buffet, and the place was relatively empty, with two or so other tables taken. The mango lassi and chai tea were really good, and the hostess refilled the tea for us without us having to ask. They also gave us another portion of naan even before we finished our first. The service was friendly, taking our plates away at polite times. The food was plentiful but a little bland. I don't know enough about Indian food to say the names, but in general, the curries, saag paneer, and tandoori chicken were good, and almost everything has some form of potato in it. We got very full, and it's definitely a good value. They also served really good green tea ice cream, but neither of us were very fond of the other desserts. I'd like to go back for the lunch buffet, which is cheaper but probably just as good. Won't know for sure until I try it!

Buffet now available Monday thru Friday. I was a bit disappointed in the buffet - many of the dishes were overly salted or dry (esp. the kabob). I think I'll stick to the dishes on the menu - they still have the best chicken korma around!

It makes me a little sad walking into Curry Village, remembering the good ol' days eating at Cha-ya. Now there are some giant colorful photos on the wall and a big TV showing Bollywood dancing and singing. But the ugly green marble trim on the walls---oh yeah, I remember these while it was still the sterile-looking Cha-ya. Not that the decor or sentimentality can alter my appetite for Indian food though. I was ready for some vibrant flavors and doughy naans. My husband and I ordered a saag paneer, chole curry and naan and roti to share. The saag paneer was really good. Chole curry was sorta strange. Both dishes border being too sweet, which may have been because we wanted "mild" instead of spicy. But after a while, the sweet flavor was becoming a little too much. Naan and roti----ohh my, I couldn't tell which was which! They looked similar, tasted similar, which is so strange because in my mind, they are completely different. Hate to say this, but my sister is right: most Indian restaurants tend to have much more greasy naans, and nothing beats the very doughy plain naans at Naan N' Curry. Price is good for the large quantity of food. Service was fast and friendly. We did feel a little lonely being one of the only two tables eating in. Hopefully their business is better during lunch buffets or weekends.

We tried this place because of the limited Indian buffet options in our area. Also it had 4 stars on yelp. Unfortunately the dinner spread was pretty bland. At $14.99 I would have expected better quality and taste. I am a vegetarian and the vegetarian curries were pretty mediocre. My husband who had the meat options said the lamb was very dry . The only bright spot was the mango lassi. It was not too thick so you could have plenty of it without feeling full. It perhaps makes sense to have the lunch buffet here which is $10. But it is definitely not worth the $15. They also played bad Bollywood videos. I have nothing against Bollywood songs but somehow most Indian restaurants seem to showcase only the worst.

First day jitters happen to everyone, especially to those who work in the restaurant world. This was evident today at Curry Village's grand opening. I stopped by for lunchtime since I had some spare time in the afternoon. They had lunch buffet for $9.99; apparently buffet is not every day, only on certain days. Friday is one of those days, luckily! The buffet deal was good since I was able to try out a few of their choice dishes. The lamb was very tender in the lamb curry dish; the naan was brought out fresh from the kitchen; nicely toasted yet still soft to the touch. Also, all-you-can-drink chai served in the back room; just the right hint of milk in the chai. Mm! The service was a little confusing, though, but I'll blame that on the fact that it was their first day open. I couldn't figure out if I was to seat myself or not, and directions were not clear that I had a choice between buffet or just ordering off the menu. However, after I got my food, service was attentive in making sure I was okay with my food and drink. There's seating both in the front and back rooms; good enough for small groups. The buffet set-up is fancy/amusing, with the food served in gold pots. Bollywood music was playing in the back room; fine atmosphere. I'll say 3.5 stars for now; will be back after the grand opening jitters calm down.

We quite literally stumbled onto this place. My partner-in-crime and I have been strolling around Irving, hunting for a good feeding spot when we bumped into their little sign. Why? Because we were a bit woozy from hunger. So this review goes to Curry Village's special excellent buffet. Service: The hostess (gotta catch her name next time) is simply wooonderful! Warm smiles, endless replenishment of that fluffy, crusty garlic naan, bottomless Chai tea. Our water was always filled to the brim. Food: Though one of the Equator (South/ SE Asian) people, I'm not that familiar with the dishes' names. But I did grow up eating Indian food in Burma so I recognize the dishes by sight, smell, and taste. My first and most preferred prey is the masaala chicken. Well seasoned (but not lathered) with spices and perfectly cooked -- a squeeze of that lemon wedge and boy, a pile of chicken bones on your plate before you know it. They have a pretty lean and mean selection of curries and a small selection of dessert but hey, who has room for dessert after masala chicken? Atmosphere: Everything was spick-span clean. The buffet table was periodically wiped down so it didn't look like a curry crime scene. Indian music videos all throughout. Buffet price every time we've been there has been around $8-9/ person. Oh and you get to take your leftover naan home! Fo' free!

My spouse had never eaten much Indian food, so I figured the best bet for her would be a buffet. Curry Village didn't disappoint. Their dinner buffet had plenty of items, freshly stocked and of pretty good quality. Did I mention you get all that, plus beverages for $15? That's what earned the 4 stars. I think the curry could have been spicier for my taste, but it was probably just right for the spouse. Chicken Tiki Masala was good, so was the fish. Service was amusing. We had enjoyed a plate of the garlic naan and had almost finished it. The guy who brought the dish asked if we wanted more. No, we said (I hate to leave food at a buffet). A few minutes later the woman who I think was the owner admonished him for not bringing us more. So another plate of naan arrives. What the heck, we ate it. Then she brought us mango lassi without asking. I do like places with that kind of homey service.

If you like Indian buffets, this place is king. The buffet option is available all throughout the day, all the way till 11pm too. That's right, lunch AND dinner buffet. And for $14 bucks! And if you mention yelp, %15 off the bill baby! Why the hell not? Well, I gues NOT if you're not into Indian buffets. If you want a non-buffet option, there's countless places to go to that are better in taste. Place is very nice, very clean, has every dessert available at all times, unlimited chilled mango lassi, and has extremely sexy Indian music videos on at all times on a big flatscreen TV! No joke, son! Parking is a bitch though, especially anywhere near Irving between 5th - 11th street

I give this place a 3.5. The food is a little more than just ok but not quit my favorite. First off the lady working here is SUPER attentive and nice, explained to us the origin of the food and brought us fresh hot naan before our basket was even empty. We went for the buffet and my friends LOVED it. I've had indian food made from my friend's indian mom and I've had lots of great indian food. The Naan was real good, the Chicken Masala was tasty but a bit on the spicy side for me. The Tandori Chicken breast was a bit dry so I went with the wings and legs and those were yummy! I also enjoyed the Spinach and Cheese dish I forgot the name, something Paneer, that was good. There was one dish I didn't know if it was eggplant or not so I skipped it, I wish there was a description of the food at the buffet. Going down the line I was the most impressed with the following: Wings/ thighs of Tandori Chicken, Mango dessert, almond dessert, Naan. and Samosa. Oh and I got the 15% off yelp mention

If my yelp was based on the absolutely horrendous Indian music videos playing loudly on the television, well, I'd be looking for the zero star button. Not so good, and a note to my friends at Curry Village, you might want to turn the volume down a bit. It's not adding to the ambiance of an already cavernous feeling place. However, I say my friends with the most genuine of feeling. Not only are these super nice people dishing up good indian (based on my tasty chicken saag), but also have a clear appreciation for their customers. The bonus naan bread would have been enough (which was used for karmatic payback for my less fortunate neighbors down the street: yelp.com/biz/tofu-villag… ), but even better, was the voice calling after me as I was walking down the street, calling out that I had left my credit card. Thank you very, very much. Add an appreciation for the environment too. Takeout utensils are biodegradable. Great people, good food, the music videos.....well, no one is perfect.

I've been craving Indian food so I yelped and it brought me here. We arrived a little before 5 and there was one other table of 2 seated. We were greeted by a middle age woman who told us to sit wherever and go ahead and get food from the buffet. Most of the stuff looked like it had been out for awhile. The food was just okay, nothing stood out. Half way through dinner, a verbal fight broke out in the back, we could hear at least 3 people screaming at each other. I have no idea what they were screaming about but it went on for about 20 minutes. It was uncomfortable being there, I couldn't get anyone's attention to get the check. I would never go back!

I have never written a Yelp review, but after my last trip to this restaurant, I feel inclined to share our experience (I'm writing this review from my husband's Yelp account). It was around 2-3pm in the afternoon, and we were craving Indian food. It seemed like every other Indian restaurant was already closed after lunch. We were excited to find Curry Village still open for business. After walking in, we realized it's a buffet restaurant. For health reasons, my husband is not allowed to have buffet-style meals. We asked the owner if we could order from the menu, and she readily said "yes." So we ordered multiple items from the menu. While our dishes were supposed to be made fresh, I noticed several times that people from the kitchen came out and retrieved items from the buffet. I became suspicious that those items might end up in our dishes, so I walked over to the buffet to look at the things they took. And sure enough, those items were served to us in the dishes that we ordered! For example, the owner herself took a plate of tandoori chicken from the buffet back to the kitchen, and that chicken was used in our chicken tikka masala. I couldn't believe my eyes! The whole reason we ordered from the menu is so we can have *fresh* food (since my husband has a weakened immune system)! If we could eat from the buffet, we wouldn't be paying more to order from the menu. Obviously this restaurant is not equipped to handle those clients who wish to order from the menu, then they shouldn't offer that as an option. It's absolutely appalling and disgusting to use items from the buffet (already sitting out for hours) in a supposed-to-be-freshly-made dish. On top of that, the food itself was terrible. Chicken tikka masala is my absolute favorite Indian dish of all time, and I've had it many many many times at different restaurants. It is usually a vibrantly orange color with a savory/creamy taste. The one we had at Curry Village was dark brown in color and very sweet; totally not what I expected! The vegetable biryani we ordered was totally dry and tasteless. The rice tasted like it was made days ago. All in all, it was a horrible experience and needless to say, we will not be returning to this restaurant. I am not sure where the 4 stars came from, so I wanted to make sure that I honestly share our experience with you.

Great food, great price, great service. Woohoo! As good as it gets! I can't believe the food in a buffet line was this good. I *loved* some of the dishes. Some kind of sweet chicken thing at the beginning of the line was one of the best Indian dishes I've ever had. FOURTEEN BUCKS EACH! The service was top notch. We came at 7:40 on a Wednesday and we were seated immediately. Server lady was very nice. She wouldn't take "no" for answer on chai refills, which was quite charming. Avoid the samosa. Not crispy and a little bland. Save room for everything else. Don't miss that orange-colred drink up by the register. Don't forget to put some ice in it, because it's way better cold. My god... I ate so much... I can't believe I went back for a second plate. I was already full. But it was that good. The only thing that could improve this place would be a room with a vomitorium. That way, I could hit the buffet-line a couple more times.

When it comes to Indian food in SF, there really isn't an abundance of greatness. Curry Village not only has a buffet that won't make you toilet bound , but it is also good! It comes with fresh naan and mango lassi or sodas, etc. There is even dessert! Try the crazy orange looking slime. It is SOOO good. I will often go out of my way to come here and get take out too and let me tell you, this place gives you LOADS of food. I can honestly say the last time I ordered their butter chicken I couldn't shove it in my mouth fast enough and between breaths comment on how "damn good" it was. We also like burn your ass spicy and although almost nobody can seem to do this without sacrificing flavor, they at least will give it a shot. (You may have to convince them you really do want it spicy) GO TO THIS PLACE! No regrets.

Since moving here I've been looking for my Indian buffet spot I crave occasionally. Curry Village has a great spread, lots of choices that I think other restaurants don't usually give. I like that there is chai included and that the naan is plentiful. The naan here is actually some of the best naan I've ever had. Really buttery and salty. They also have some cool Bollywood dance films playing in the background. Overall, I think they go out and beyond the average buffet restaurant.

This place is amazing!! Took my Mom here for Mothers day and the lunch buffet was delicious! Good quality with a lot of variety! Service was also awesome! So attentive, polite and gracious. Overall great experience! Very reasonable pricing and I will DEFINITELY be back again! :)

as soon as we walk in they bring hot tea and water! we came at 11:45am today. they have the basics, still waiting for naan, samosas and a few of their other delicious dishes. I like spicy food, however sometimes it's very spicy. it changes depending on the day we come. aside for those small qualms, this is by far the best Indian buffet ive been too!

This restaurant was definitely on my to-go list. I was sold when I read that this place served an indian buffet for dinner until 11pm everyday. I made my BF take me here and one of the thing that i immediately regret is driving. We should've taxi-ed it, or bart-ed it, or bus-ed it. Coming from LA where a restaurant has ample parking, if not valet. But parking here in SF is such a B*t**. Ugh, bf and i came here around 9pm on a Sunday and we circled the block 4 times but i assume that's expected in SF. Finally a million years later, once we found parking we entered the restaurant and noticed that there were quite a few people in there. We immediately grabbed plates and there was so much variety! There were probably a good 20 entrees on the table and it was so clean! I loved it. They also give you a type of indian tea which tasted similar to chai tea but looked like coffee. It was really good! One thing that I must commend them on is the exceptional service. Everytime our water cups or chai tea was low to half, they promptly refilled it. One of the things that I wish was different was their garlic naan. The naan was so different from the ones we normally get. BF suggested that maybe its because its from a different part of India.. lol. But the naan here is really thick, not thin and crispy like they serve in socal. But seriously, aside from that, great food, great service, what more could you possibly ask for? The selection here is ample. You definitely get to try a little bit of everything. There were a lot of vegetarian options for those of you who are concerned with that. The best part was, all this was only $15.99/pp. That is relatively cheap, considering the prices back home. So if your having an indian craving, stop by curry village, its a little drive away on the other side of town but its opens till 11pm and its all you can eat!!

It's worth it to go to the buffet at this place for the mango lassi alone. I swear everytime I come here I drink at least 4 cups. Probably closer to 5. Yum. So let's say that 4 cups of mango lassi at $2.50 a pop elsewhere would total to $10--basically you're (I'M) paying $5 for a feast of Indian food! Ok, so I know my logic's off, but the fact that mango lassi is included in the buffet makes it slightly worth it to pay the slightly more expensive price for the dinner buffet. I wouldn't call the food itself amazing. I've had better Indian food (a la carte) at other local eateries (oh how I miss Tasty Curry), but for being a buffet, this play is more than decent. My recommendation is to get there at 5:30, exactly when it opens, just so the meat isn't extremely dry and overcooked. I love the tikka masala, saag paneer (minus the paneer because i'm not a cheese person), and the never ending supply of garlic naan. There are about 20 items to choose from and they're all tasty, but I really have no idea what I'm eating after I make my selections. I really wish they'd offer up some explanations for each dish instead of just a name. The service is average. Nothing too special. You sit down where you want and the hostess continuously refills your naan basket and brings you chai tea throughout the night. Doesn't do that much, but hey I wouldn't expect that much at a buffet. However, the place is exceptionally clean and well ventilated, which means you don't actually notice that you're sitting in a restaurant full of Indian food aromas until you walk out later and reek of it. Parking around 9th and Irving is always going to suck. But I can't really dock that much off for that since I would willingly park to go to other restaurants in the area. Really, this is 3.5 stars, not just 3. The food is decent, albeit nothing special. But I could sit here for awhile and slop up tikka masala with fluffy naana and throw back glass after glass of mango lassi. **note, don't expect to do much after you eat here. last time i came in, i ate 2 plates and felt like dying afterwards. the bloated look is not a good one**

I don't know if I will go back here once it reopens. I might wait a while and see how people review it. I was not impressed by their food. It was very bland. The dishes at the buffet look like they had been sitting out all day. There were so many flies, it was disgusting. Also the service was awkward and hiding in the back. I am not surprised they were shut down. I am giving them two stars because I didn't get food poisoning.

Closed due to health hazards! I called this a long time ago... One incident I didn't mention in my past reviews: I was about to spoon some rice on to my plate when I noticed a rancid smell wafting up from the rice container... As someone that cooks rice almost daily at home, I know the smell of rancid, spoiled rice... I immediately brought this to the attention of the owner... she had the cook take the rice back to the kitchent, toss it into a giant wok, fry it and bring it right back out!! She then said the smell was just from the spices!!!

This is the best Indian buffet I've been to, and even better with the price! I think it's $13.99 per person for lunch/dinner. This is definitely the place to go for Indian buffet. It's not just the unlimited food, but everything actually tastes good! Everything in this place is buffet style! You have the regular curry: with a wide variety of meat: chicken, lamb, fish, shrimps, and also a wide variety of vegetarian options. The salad bar and the desserts bar also offer a bunch of options! However, my favorites are the unlimited mango lassi and the chai tea! I have yet to find an Indian buffet that gives so many goodies!

I'm changing from 5 stars to 2 stars. One of the best features about this restaurant was that it included free drinks. Sodas, Mango Lassi and Chai were all for free. This place is now under new management. The food was good but they didn't have the container for the Mango Lassi. i asked the manager and he said it would be right out. After I had about 4 glasses or so, the Manager / owner told me he was going to charge me 2.50 per glass! I asked him where was the sign that they had changed the policy for their drinks? All he could say was that they were losing money and that I was "lucky" because other places charge 4 dollars a glass. He also went on to say no restaurants ever include free drinks with their buffets! He did finally drop the charge but that was after haggling with him for 10 minutes. Well he's going to lose the business from me and my friends as well.

I've come here about 3 times now. It is hit or miss. When you see a lot of people, that means the food is fresh. Not too many, the food has been sitting there for a while. The best part is that the mango lassi is all-you-can drink. The Chai is nice, hot, and fresh. The drinks are all included. The naan is always fresh. I like the ice cream, even though it is a bit melted. The food? I kind of don't have a favorite. Sometimes, it just all runs together and I can't tell which is which. One time, I got the fish and it was good. The food isn't very spicy as compared to Naan n curry down the street. For all the food you get, this is worth it. They let you sit as long as you like.

I just had a late lunch here. I paid and tipped and walked out half way through my meal, having been there less than ten minutes. WHY , I hear you say????. Because the "Chef" walked out to inspect the buffet food, in the most disgusting filthy shirt I have ever seen on a non homeless person. Curry stains all over, and what looked like fresh blood on his sleeve. If he felt totally comfortable coming into the public Restaurant in that state, how much more comfortable must he feel in the privacy of his kitchen cooking food. This place has recently reopened having been closed for health violations. LESSON CERTAINLY NOT LEARNED!!!

Wowowowowowowowow I love buffets! I came here for lunch with my sissy since she was raving so much about it. You have the option of ordering from their menu or the buffet. $14.99 for a AYCE Indian buffet?! SCHWEEEET. The interior looks like a basic cafeteria somewhat. The food's all lined up buffet style and there's loads of plates, cups, etc. I like how the tables have flowers on em haha. MmMmMmmMmmM curries. I like curries! Chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, fish curry (what!!!) Chicken tandoori, samosas. MmMmMmmM. They even have a separate fruits&dessert section in their buffet. Good perks of buffet: - bottomless chai tea. Their chai is actually really good. I like my chai a bit creamy and not too watery and theirs was just about right. Their was also sweet as well. Nom. - bottomless naan. Usually naan is served whole, but i like that they cut theirs into smaller triangles. Makes it easier to eat. Plain naan is good, but i love garlic naan. Fluffy and lightly oiled with fresh garlic bits. Nommm. It tastes sooo good with chicken tikka masala! - bottomless mango lassi. I didnt get to try it, but i will next time! The waitress was so attentative, always refilling our waters and our tea. Food makes the restaurant good, but its the workers who make it or break it and she definitely made my experience here worth it. I came in here with an empty stomach, and came out full as hell. Good money's worth.

The reason the score went from a generous 3 to a 1 is because besides being spicy as heck rather than flavorful without killing us, per recent reviews, this place was closed after the latest health inspection. Apparently this isn't their first run in with the department of health. Now that I have eaten there, I do not even want to know what was found just days after we visited. Shameful they would put us at risk like that. Hey, why does Yelp remove my UFC's from the original review every time I write an update? I was told this was fixed? Please bring me back my UFC'S (or as I like to call them FUC'S)!!!!

Don't know why it's closed again now, but this place had been my fave until a few months ago, which was the last time I had gone. It had already changed to new management when I was last there (the young, greasy dude trying to sell curry to you like a used car salesman). Let me tell you why I used to love it... It used to have a family feel to the place, service was awesome, food was generous and they didn't charge for chai or lassi. I honeatly don't care that they got shut down for not passing the health code or whatever. The way I saw it, what I didn't know made it that much tastier. So, when imagine my surprise seeing this young dude there totally trying to chat up all the customers while secretly charging me for chais! He was so annoying and fake, dishing out the same lines to everyone. Maybe he's trying to make the place more of a hipster establishment or something, but he ruined curry village for me. I loved that place before him and was my go to Indian eatery. Guess I'll just have to find another now...

Disappointed that this place has changed management and they didn't inform us about the changes and above all that DRINKS ARE NOT INCLUDED! I've been here more than 10 times for the buffet. Nann was piled high, chai was bottomless and mango lassi was to die for. NOW..it's a pathetic buffet and the tikka masala had the most smallest chicken pieces ever! This was my absolute favorite little gem for Indian food now I'm not going to come back.. If it's not apart of the buffet, PLEASE DO NOT put the mango lassi out for self serve!

This place got shut down on 5/6/14 by the department of public health and is still closed today 5/29/14. I live a block away and have had the buffet a couple of times, but left without eating one day after I noticed they were dealing with a fly infestation. They had full fly strips hanging throughout the restaurant. There were also flies flying around and hanging out on the walls and windows. It was gross. I don't how they remained open. Given my personal experience and their repeated violations ( sfdph.org/dph/eh/food/sc… ), I definitely won't go back if they reopen. It's just not worth the health risk. If not for the health worries, I'd give them 3 stars but it's not worth going into why.

Unlimited mango lassi. How can you not like this place? So good. I went here for dinner buffet with my roommate and unfortunately I was not hungry enough, which was a shame, but I was so satisfied about the unlimitted mango lassi. So good. The people that work there are also super nice. They even sent us home with naan, which is strange because usually you can't take food home from a buffet. Overall, good place to go to when you are hungry.

This place has been forced to shut down by the City and County of San Francisco Public Health Department at least 3 times in the past 12 months...do I need to say more for you to stay away from this place? As I type this review Curry Village is currently forced to close by the SF Department of Public Health Services. SF Department of Public Health Environmental Health Services Notice of Closure posted on the front door of Curry Village states,"Per California Retail Food Code, Section 113810 and 114409(a), the permit has been suspended due to identified existence of imminent health hazard(s). The imminent health hazard(s) can cause on or more of the following: Food intoxication, Food Infection, Disease Transmission, Vermin Infestation, or Hazardous condition that requires immediate correction or cessation of the operation. AND/OR Permit Suspension: Serious or Repeated Violations, or Interference, California Retail Food Code, Section 114411." STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! They have been given way too many chances to clean up, get their food safety up to standards, BUT they continue to be cited and closed down by SF Department of Public Health Services.

I have enjoyed the spicing of the food here many times, and this was no exception. The cook stopped by and said that the problems in the kitchen were 'fixed'; and the continued use of the steam table rather than the elegant chafing dishes has much better temperature control. The 'partner' came by and was friendly. IMO the high points: the Chai that comes hot and sweet, the hot naan, saag (spinach), okra, a fish fillet freshly cooked, a lamb ?vindaloo, and the salt pickled vegetable. The tandoori chicken is well flavored but dry (as other restaurants). Naan, chai, and water served with a smile. IMO room for improvement has to be sanitation. Already they scored 67 twice on 'unscheduled' inspections (less than 70 is poor per DPH) for different things, which is why I ate so little chicken. The tasty Mango lassi was in a room temperature dispenser; I was enjoying it until I wondered how long it had been sitting out so I left the almost full glass. The 'hostess' was sitting in back and just waved me to a table rather than getting up and greeting me, perhaps she was still tired from the epic argument she had last time I was here. All in all the flavors are the best Indian food I can recall. But their Health Dept scores still worry me.

Only thing good abt it was that it's cheap for AYCE. Food was cold to lukewarm at best, bland curries, and tough meats all around. Tasty Indian makes one want to drench the naan and rice in curry to soak up the flavor and grease but at curry village, we had no such interest whatsoever. Furthermore, the cook in the back came to the buffet table and started to use his bare hands to manually reposition the food for better presentation. C'mon now...I know you prob cooked it but at least used the big ass spoons available for each dish to move the food. ..not your hands or fingers. Oh, lastly, if you come for dinner, just know that you're eating stuff prepped and left out since the AM. Hence why it's cold by lunch time already on a wknd...the owners rather cook in big batches vs. make fresh each and every time food is abt to run out. Your money is better spent at Amber even if it's $10 more per person. We went cheap and came out disappointed in ourselves for making such a poor choice.

I went to Curry Village to try their lunch buffet. You get a lot of food for $14!! The buffet was a sure protein fest for me. They had a very good spread of at least 8-10 entrees to select from. I couldn't get enough of their Tandoori Fish and the Chicken Tikka Masala. And all the Naan you can stuff yourself with!! If you're in the Inner Sunset area and want some good Indian Food and a good deal, try the lunch buffet at Curry Village. You'll for sure get your money's worth!!

Whether you come here for the buffet or order specific dishes to go, the curry is deliciously flavorful and the naan is perfectly fluffy and buttery. If you order to-go, one serving of curry is essentially three meals. If you stay seated for the buffet, complimentary chai, mango lassi, and naan are served. Come here if you don't mind tastey, quality food surrounded by the sounds of Bollywood music videos. [EDIT] The buffet has gotten more expensive-- the extra $2 might deter me from coming here more often, but the food is still good!

We got here on a Wednesday night and there were about 4 other people, which I thought for a Wednesday night was at least not frighteningly low considering its size. I had plans to order from the menu, while my boyfriend got the buffet, but when I mentioned that to one of the workers he said "the chef isn't here." Which seemed really strange. So, I was kind of forced into the buffet, but at least there were a few vegetarian options. As others have said, the buffet comes with free chai tea and naan, and the naan was actually pretty delicious. However, it took about 20 minutes before we received any (meanwhile everyone around us, including those that came in after, got first or second portions). It seemed kind of disorganized, no one was ever really around and when they were they were gone before you could say anything. The buffet itself was ok. My boyfriend liked it a bit more than I did but it wasn't great by any means. The food I got was a decent temp, but I heard someone behind me mention that there's was cold. I'm by no means an expert on indian cuisine, but the food just seemed a little off to both of us. Too sweet, or too bland, too strong a spice here, etc etc. Like many others, I later found out this place has been closed twice by the health department. Which I guess explains the mini swarm of flies that seemed to be circling our food after a while.

On our first and only visit to this dump, the waitstaff totally ignored us for 10-15 minutes. We waved, gave significant eye contact, walked up to the register, but the girl was on an apparently very important phone call and did not once acknowledge our presence! Crazy and bizarre!! The place had two other tables occupied, but was otherwise empty. We figured maybe there had just been a death in the family, or the stock market crashed, to be important enough to freeze us out. We got up and walked out, went to Andy's Chinese Cuisine down the block, and had a nice meal. We won't patronize Curry Village because of the rude service.

I just went here a couple weeks ago, and it's definitely not closed! I don't know what Kool Aid the folks who said it was closed have been sipping. Despite being known for their lunch buffet, Curry Village is hands down the BEST Indian food I've had in the bay area. I don't get to eat there as often as I used to when I lived in SF, but whenever I'm in the area I make a point to stop by. It's also very reasonably priced. My two favorite dishes are the chicken tikka masala and the lamb vindaloo. SO GOOD. The naan is fluffy, warm, buttery and delicious. The owners are also extremely nice. 6 out of 5 stars.

I love this place. The first time I went there I told the owner I was in a low carb diet and asked her to point out to me which dishes do not have wheat. She very kindly told me so. Since then, I have visited this restaurant many times and she is always kind to me. Neither she nor anybody at the restaurant mind that I eat a lot of meat when I go there (I also eat the vegetarian dishes later). They give naan to all their customers, and since they know me, they don't give it to me. Take into account their dishes are very mild compared with most other hindi restaurants. Westerners will like the food, although fans of traditional hindi food, which tends to be spicy, might have a problem with it. I would prefer if the food were a little spicier myself. The ice cream they serve is mediocre, but the rice pudding they serve is very good. The gulab jamun is also very good, although, since it has wheat, I only had it once. I have gone to this restaurant many times, and I will continue to go, mainly because of their service. Compare this with the review I wrote for the Bombay Indian Restaurant at the Castro: yelp.com/biz/bombay-indi…

Got take-out from here last night and we were very impressed by the quality and quantity of food we got: lamb korma (delicious and creamy with lots of chunks of lamb and fruit), saag paneer (also super tasty, and thicker than I've normally had it elsewhere), and naan and rice. The rice was light and flavorful, and we weren't expecting so much naan for the two orders we got -- and they'd already cut it up, which was also helpful. So for ~$30, the two of us found ourselves very full after dinner with enough leftovers to feed us both again the next day. Yum! By the way, the mild versions of our dishes still had a memorable kick to them, which we ended up really liking -- just wanted to warn those of you who really can't handle any spiciness.

I give this place a 4 star because of the excellent service, naan bread, and free drinks! My boss paid for my meal, but I believe it is a buffet setting when I came in for lunch. I immediately fell in love with fresh garlic naan bread. It is so soft, yet toasted just perfectly so it crunches too! Their tikka masala was my favorite, just because I love it everywhere else too. But theirs has a hint of spiciness to it, but it was delicious. I had their chicken tandoori and it was a little too dry and hard. The owner always refilled our water, chai tea (which I don't usually like but it isn't so strong here so I enjoyed it), and their mango smoothie near plates where the buffet begins. Yum! Will definitely consider coming back again!

The old Curry Village is dead. Under new management, the plentiful complimentary buffet items are gone: the chai, lassi, and naan are no longer included. The buffet was so pathetic that I felt embarrassed for the staff. And the new manager was both clueless and tactless. It was the saddest dining experience I've had in... forever. I wish it didn't have to end this way.

While I can agree with that the food at Curry Village is particularly flavorful and well done, at present I would only recommended it -- at most -- for the buffet. The last three times that we been at the restaurant we have found the service to be frustratingly, agonizingly, slow and inconsistent. The last time that we were at the restaurant, we waited for an unacceptable amount of time and ultimately ended up just walking out in frustration.
